San Mateo’s coastal regions to get a makeover as Bayfront Cleanup returns with community spirit and eco-friendly goals
San Mateo, California – With the Bayfront Cleanup returning this September, the San Mateo community is getting ready for an interesting and environmentally friendly event. Scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, this event is set for volunteers to gather at two main sites: Seal Point Park in Foster City and a parking lot close to Rock Harbor Lane.
Part of the bigger California Coastal Clean-up, this yearly event has become more and more popular because of its mix of preservation of the environment and community spirit. The cleanup will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm; organizers advise volunteers to bring strong shoes fit for the terrain and activities involving significant bending and walking as well as worn clothing.
Cleaning our bayfront is simply one aspect; another is teaching our neighborhood on how trash affects our natural environments. To assist reduce throwaway trash, volunteers are advised to pack reusable water bottles.
The event is well-known for its “Catch of the Day” contest, in which volunteers may present their most odd discoveries. Prize awards will go for Heaviest Item, Strangest Item, and Most Valuable Item among other categories. These exciting contests provide the volunteers an element of excitement.

For those early risers, the day will begin with complementary coffee and donuts, which will provide some extra energy to get going. It’s also a family-friendly event, however minors have to be accompanied by an adult. There is parking along J. Hart Clinton Drive; given the expected crowd, extra time for arrival is advised.
Students seeking volunteer opportunities can get their verification paperwork signed close to the registration desk following their cleanup participation. This can be a great way for young community members to contribute to their environment while earning service hours for school or clubs.
