SMCTA invites public input to shape the future of transportation along Highway 101
San Mateo County, California – San Mateo County’s Highway 101, a vital lifeline for commuters, businesses, and travelers, is at the center of a transformative vision aimed at making it more accessible, safer, and sustainable. Through its creative 101 Corridor Connect program, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA) invites residents and stakeholders to contribute their opinions and preferences, thus helping to define this vision. This bold project seeks to reconsider how people travel one of the busiest and most important transit hubs in the county.
Highway 101 is more than just a road; it’s a busy corridor linking towns and enabling several kinds of transportation. Highway 101 provides access for everyone in San Mateo County whether your mode of transportation is driving, biking, walking, bus riding, rail or ferry. Understanding this, SMCTA is approaching transportation planning systemically and aims to provide an integrated corridor able to meet the various needs of all its users.
At the heart of the 101 Corridor Connect program are two key initiatives:
- Mid-County Multimodal Strategy: This effort focuses on enhancing mobility within a mile of the highway. It aims to provide seamless travel options for everyone, no matter their chosen mode of transport.
- Active 101: This initiative prioritizes improving walking, biking, and transit crossings within a quarter-mile radius of Highway 101. The goal is to make these travel modes safer and more convenient for residents and visitors alike.
These initiatives aim to lay the groundwork for projects that not only address current challenges but also anticipate future needs.
