Special northbound trains will help Bay Area runners reach Bay to Breakers on Sunday, May 17

Bay Area – Bay to Breakers will once again send thousands of runners, walkers and costumed participants across San Francisco this Sunday, May 17, and Caltrain is adding extra early-morning service to help Peninsula and South Bay riders reach the starting line on time.

The race, one of San Francisco’s best-known traditions, begins at Howard Street and Main Street. For many participants traveling from outside the city, Caltrain will offer a direct and practical way to get close to the event before the morning rush begins.

To support race-day travel, Caltrain will operate two special northbound pre-event trains with limited stops. From San Jose, Train #925 will depart San Jose Diridon Station at 6:04 a.m. and arrive at San Francisco Caltrain Station at 7:20 a.m.

A second special train, Train #923, will depart Palo Alto Station at 6:08 a.m. and arrive in San Francisco at 7 a.m. Riders boarding in Palo Alto should note that Train #923 will use the southbound platform.

Caltrain is encouraging riders to arrive early at stations so they have enough time to board their preferred train. Alcohol will not be allowed on the special pre-event trains.

Once passengers arrive at the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets, they will be about 1.4 miles from the Bay to Breakers starting line. Participants can walk from the station or take the N Judah Muni train from King Street to get closer to the race area.

For the trip home, riders will be able to use Caltrain’s regular half-hourly weekend service. Schedule and fare information is available at www.caltrain.com, and trip-planning help is also available through Caltrain Customer Service at 1.800.660.4287 or TTY 650.508.6448.

Caltrain also reminded passengers that it operates as a proof-of-payment system. Riders must pay before boarding, as tickets are not sold onboard trains. Clipper card users should remember to tap on and tap off, while paper tickets can be purchased at station ticket machines.
