Caltrain is well prepared, says trains will run every half hour for Bay Area World Cup matches this summer

Bay Area – The Bay Area is preparing for a summer of soccer, and Caltrain says it is ready to help fans make the trip without turning match day into a traffic battle.

With the World Cup coming to the region, San Francisco Bay Area (Levi’s) Stadium in Santa Clara will host six local matches, beginning at noon on Saturday, June 13. The final Bay Area match is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, giving fans several chances to ride the rails toward one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

Caltrain will serve as a key connection for spectators heading to the stadium. Fans can take Caltrain to Mountain View Station, where trains will run every half hour for all games, including weekday and weekend matches. From Mountain View, riders can transfer directly to VTA light rail service for the final stretch to the stadium.

Because parking at Mountain View Station is expected to fill quickly, Caltrain is urging riders to consider parking at other stations along the corridor and taking the train into Mountain View. The agency is also planning extra service for the three late-night matches on June 16, June 19 and June 22, so fans have a safer and easier way to return home after the final whistle.

Caltrain is also pointing riders to its social media channels for updates on additional World Cup-related events that can be reached by train.

Before boarding, passengers should remember that Caltrain operates as a proof-of-payment system, meaning fares must be paid in advance. Riders can use Clipper, the Bay Area’s reloadable transit card, or simply tap a contactless credit card, debit card or digital wallet at a Clipper reader. Those who do not use Clipper or contactless payment can buy tickets at station ticket machines, as tickets are not sold on board.

Youth fares remain $1 for a one-way ticket and $2 for a day pass for passengers 18 and under. Token Transit is also accepted on both Caltrain and VTA, giving riders another option to avoid ticket machines and Clipper readers.

Caltrain also reminds customers that open alcoholic beverages are allowed on trains only until 9 p.m. during regular service, and disruptive passengers may be asked to leave Caltrain property.

Paid parking rules remain in effect all day, including weekends and holidays. Parking at Caltrain stations costs $5.50 per day, with permits available through the ParkMobile app or station ticket machines.
