Caltrain offers fans a traffic-free route to Earthquakes and Galaxy rivalry
Bay Area – The Bay Area’s biggest soccer rivalry is returning to Stanford Stadium, and for thousands of fans, the easiest part of the night may be getting there. Caltrain is positioning itself as the direct route to the San Jose Earthquakes’ clash with the LA Galaxy on Saturday, July 25.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., but the game-day trip can begin well before the first whistle. Supporters can take Caltrain to Palo Alto Station, then make the short walk to Stanford Stadium without dealing with the traffic and parking pressure that often surrounds major events.
Fans planning to ride should purchase or validate their fare before stepping onto the train. Caltrain operates as a proof-of-payment system, meaning tickets are not sold onboard and passengers must be ready to show valid payment during their trip.

Clipper remains one of the simplest payment options. Riders can use the reloadable Bay Area transit card or tap a contactless credit card, debit card or digital wallet at a Clipper reader. Each rider must tap on before boarding and tap off after leaving the train. Passengers who do not have any of those payment methods can buy tickets from station machines.
Younger supporters can also travel at a reduced cost. Riders age 18 and under pay $1 for a one-way Youth Fare or $2 for a Youth Day Pass, making the rivalry match more accessible for families and youth soccer fans.
Those driving to a Caltrain station before continuing by rail should remember that paid parking rules remain in effect on weekends and holidays. Daily parking costs $5.50 and can be purchased at a station ticket machine or through the ParkMobile app.
ParkMobile users must enter the correct station zone number and parking-space number. The zone number is available in the app, on station signs and on individual station pages at www.caltrain.com. Customers also need an account containing an email address, payment method and vehicle license plate number.
Caltrain is also reminding passengers about conduct rules after the match. Open alcoholic beverages are prohibited on trains beginning at 9 p.m. on special-event days and nights. Riders who become disruptive may be required to leave Caltrain property.
