San Mateo residents invited to attend online workshop to explain how zoning updates could shape city’s growth

San Mateo, California – A virtual public session planned for mid-January will give residents and stakeholders in San Mateo a chance to learn more about proposed revisions to the city’s development policies. The City of San Mateo is encouraging everyone to take part in an online meeting about a big overhaul to its Zoning Code.
The event will be on Thursday, January 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pacific time. Officials from the city said that the meeting is meant to clarify why the Zoning Code is being changed and how those changes could affect growth in San Mateo in the future. The meeting will be hosted online. The spot can be reserved here.
The city says that the modification to the Zoning Code is meant to bring local rules in line with the new General Plan 2040 and Housing Element for 2023–2031. This includes changing zoning districts so that they better match the planned uses of land in the General Plan. The update should also get rid of old rules, add new development opportunities, and make the code easier for residents, property owners, and developers to understand and utilize.
Staff will explain the primary goals and policies that will guide the updating process to attendees throughout the workshop. People who participate will also be asked to give their thoughts on important topics that they think the new Zoning Code should deal with. After the presentation, there will be time for questions and comments from the audience.
