Joint investigation uncovers evidence linking Redwood City man to residential burglaries and armed confrontation inside San Carlos home

Redwood City, California – A coordinated investigation between the Redwood City Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of 36-year-old man authorities say is connected to multiple residential burglaries and a violent home invasion on the Peninsula.
According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as Miguel Antonio AguilarSarabia of Redwood City, has been in custody since Jan. 17. Detectives from both agencies spent weeks conducting follow-up work that ultimately tied him to at least two break-ins and a robbery inside a San Carlos home.

The investigation traces back to Jan. 9, when Sheriff’s deputies responded around 2 a.m. to a reported robbery in the 1400 block of Greenwood Avenue in San Carlos. According to authorities, a man forced his way into the home, pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the resident, demanded money and valuables, and then fled on a bicycle.
The victim was not physically injured. Deputies canvassed the neighborhood, gathered evidence, and deployed drone and K-9 units, but the suspect was not immediately found. Patrols in the area were increased as the investigation continued.
Eight days later, on Jan. 17 at approximately 4 a.m., Redwood City police were called to a home in the 300 block of Alameda De Las Pulgas after a caregiver reported hearing footsteps upstairs. She and the elderly homeowner were downstairs at the time. The home’s power had gone out shortly before the noises began, and the alarm system did not activate.
Police launched their Drone as First Responder, which arrived before officers and provided real-time information. In dark conditions, the drone operator observed a suspect leaving through a patio door and attempting to flee. Officers detained him without incident and recovered jewelry and other items belonging to the homeowner. Investigators later determined the home’s main electrical breaker had been switched off.

AguilarSarabia was booked on multiple charges, including residential burglary, committing a felony while on bail, resisting an officer, possession of burglary tools, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A search warrant executed at his residence led to the discovery of additional stolen property and evidence linking him to another Redwood City burglary and the San Carlos home invasion.
On Feb. 26, additional charges were added, including robbery, residential burglary, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and felony elder abuse. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full scope of the case.
