Sheriff’s Office in San Mateo County offers hands-on self-defense training for local women

San Mateo County, California – Women across San Mateo County will have a chance later this month to build practical safety skills in a free self-defense class hosted by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The session is designed for women who want to feel more confident, more alert and better prepared in everyday situations. According to the announcement, the class will be hands-on and will be taught by Sheriff’s Office employees, with a focus on real-world personal safety techniques.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, located at 1601 Coyote Point Drive in San Mateo. Organizers say the class is open to women age 18 and older who live or work in San Mateo County.

The program is being presented as an opportunity to strengthen awareness as much as physical readiness. In addition to learning defensive strategies, participants can expect an environment centered on empowerment and preparation for situations they may face in daily life.

“Ready to feel more empowered, aware and prepared in your everyday life?” the event notice asks, describing the class as a way to equip attendees with practical safety skills that can be used beyond the training setting.

Because space is limited, advance registration is required. Interested participants can sign up at bit.ly/self-defense-smcso.

With the class offered at no cost, the event gives eligible women in the county a chance to receive direct instruction from local law enforcement staff while gaining tools aimed at increasing confidence and personal safety.
