Redwood City to close city facilities for part of April 22 morning for staff development

Redwood City, California – A brief pause in regular operations is planned at city facilities on Wednesday, April 22, as staff step away from the front counter for a few hours of professional development aimed at strengthening public service.
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., all city facilities will be closed while employees take part in staff development activities. The temporary closure is limited to the morning, and regular business hours are scheduled to resume at 12 p.m. the same day.

While the doors may be closed for part of the morning, the purpose behind the interruption is tied directly to improving how the city serves residents in the long run.
City officials said the time is being set aside “to better serve our community,” framing the closure as an investment in service quality rather than a disruption for its own sake. It is a short window, but one intended to support the people and systems residents rely on when they interact with city departments.
Important services will not be affected. Emergency services will remain fully operational throughout the closure period, and officials are reminding the public that anyone facing an emergency should call 911. The city also noted that online services will continue to be available during the morning closure, giving residents a way to handle certain needs even while physical facilities are not open.
The schedule creates a clear transition for the day: a temporary pause in person, then a return to normal operations by midday. For residents planning visits to city buildings, the message is simple, wait until after noon for in-person business, or use online resources during the closure window.
In announcing the change, the city thanked residents for their understanding.
