Bay Area schools earn National Blue Ribbon recognition for outstanding academic achievement and inclusivity
Bar Area, California – 11 San Francisco Bay Area schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2024, a confirmation for their academic achievements and dedication to building inclusive learning environments in a major achievement for local education. This prestigious prize honors the best public and private elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the country.
Tony Thurmond, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, congratulated the eleven Bay Area-selected schools—part of a larger group of 33 schools selected statewide and 356 nationally. These educational institutions represent what it means to commit to excellence and their commitment to provide an inclusive and high-quality learning environment is evidence of the hard work of the administrations, professors, and students themselves.
“It’s an honor to recognize our exceptional Blue Ribbon Schools, where academic excellence and support for every student truly shine,” Superintendent Thurmond said. “Their commitment to creating an inclusive and outstanding learning environment embodies our mission for education here in California. Their dedication is an inspiration to us all, and we proudly celebrate this remarkable achievement.”
The schools receiving this honor include a mix of elementary, middle, and high schools, each demonstrating high performance through robust student scores and graduation rates. Among the recognized are Miramonte High School in Orinda, Alameda Science and Technology Institute in Alameda, Cornell Elementary School in Albany, Joaquin Miller Middle School in Cupertino, Leigh High School in Santa Clara, and Lynbrook High School in San Jose.
Other recognized schools are John Muir Elementary in Berkeley, Creekside Middle School in Castro Valley, Warm Springs Elementary in Fremont, Southgate Elementary in Hayward, and Madison Elementary in San Leandro. These institutions not only satisfy the high standards for academic performance but also shine in creating an environment where students may flourish and develop their best possible potential.
The Blue Ribbon Schools program honors institutions according to their general academic quality or advancement in narrowing achievement gaps among student groups. Top education officials in every state name public schools; the Council for American Private Education names private schools.
The recognition not only emphasizes the successes of the professors and students but also motivates other colleges across the country and in the state to aim for excellence and innovation in education. Celebrating their dedication to excellence and their part in determining the future of their students, the Bay Area institutions acknowledged this year have established a high benchmark.
